Some travel formalities are complicated and time-consuming. Obtaining a visa is one of them. This document authorising the holder to enter and stay in a foreign country has a new form: the e-visa or electronic visa.
Myanmar, like many countries around the world, requires foreigners to present a visa on entry. Find out in the rest of this article about the two main ways of obtaining an e-visa for Myanmar: through an agency or via the government website.
Obtaining an e-visa for Myanmar through a private service
The role of an agency is to facilitate the process of obtaining administrative travel documents. Regardless of the destination for which you wish to obtain an e-Visa, you need to ensure that you have certain documents that are essential for its issue.
We need a ID photo and a PDF copy of the passport. The photo must be taken against a white background and the facial features of the person concerned must be distinct. It must highlight any special features of the person concerned. It must also be 350 x 350 pixels and in JPEG format. The entire passport must be scanned and the entire file converted into PDF format. It is important to ensure that the information on the passport is legible.
e-Visas are issued within an average of 72 hours after the application form has been completed and approved. This permit entitles the holder to enter and stay in Myanmar for a maximum of 28 days. It costs a single fee of 47 € (consular fees). It is sent as a PDF document to the person who requested it when the agreement is reached. Once issued, the e-Visa is valid for 90 days.
Obtaining an e-Visa via the government website
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population is responsible for issuing electronic visas on the Myanmar government website. Three types of visa are available on this website: the tourist visa, the business visa and the express tourist visa. There are four basic steps to obtaining this visa:
- filling in the online form
- confirmation and payment
- obtaining the letter of approval within an average of 3 days
- obtaining a stamp on the visa printed on arrival.
