To travel to Myanmar, it is mandatory to have a valid visa. From now on, it is possible to apply for an electronic visa or e-Visa to facilitate the procedures. How is the request going? What documents must Belgian nationals provide to obtain their e-Visa?
How to apply for an e-Visa?
Applying for an electronic visa or e-Visa is a simple and effective process allowing you to obtain the precious ticket quickly and without too much difficulty. The Burmese authorities have, in fact, set up a website in the form of an official portal allowing you to complete the form to request an e-Visa since 2014. The entire process is done in English. Once on the site, you must click on “Apply Visa” and then let yourself be guided to correctly complete the form.
The e-Visa is quicker to obtain than a traditional visa. It is therefore not necessary to go to a Burmese embassy (in Belgium, the closest is in Brussels) and wait in an often endless queue. It’s a real time saver! Once the e-Visa application has been validated and approved by the Burmese government, you will receive the document by email within approximately three working days. You must print it and take it with you on the day you leave for Myanmar. It is also possible to call on a specialized agency, which will then take care of making the request and sending you the valid e-Visa, in less than 3 days. For a little extra, it's an approach that is worth taking an interest in! Especially since they take care of e-Visas for other destinations.
Payment for the e-Visa is also made online. Count approximately 48 € to obtain an e-visa, excluding any intermediary fees if necessary. This visa is valid for three months, so don't apply too far in advance, or you risk having to start all over again if the validity date has passed by the time you leave!
Documents to provide for Belgian nationals
Any Belgian national wishing to obtain an e-Visa for Myanmar is required to have a passport that is still valid (at least 6 months from the date of entry into the country). This passport must also contain at least one entire blank page.
It is also advisable to print the approval letter sent by the Burmese authorities regarding your stay in Myanmar. This gives more weight to your e-Visa and proves, rather twice than once, that you have entered the country legally.
